My Story
My interest in breastfeeding began as a mom. I always knew I wanted to breastfeed my children. I did tons of research and educated myself as much as I could when I was pregnant with my first child. Keep in mind, this was when the internet was young. I read lots of books. My first son was born via c-section. I remember having difficulties the first few days getting him to latch. The lactation consultant in the hospital didn’t provide me with much help. I went home and persevered. I kept feeding my baby and the milk flowed. I went on to breastfeed him for 2 years. I had a VBAC at home with my second son. Feeling like a seasoned breastfeeding mom, the first few days were again hard, but I breastfed him for 2 years. I had another home birth with my 3rd baby. Finally, I got my little girl. She was my champion breastfeeder and enjoyed momma’s milk for over 4.5 years. We breastfed through reoccurring thrush and various illnesses. These years breastfeeding my children are priceless to me.
I decided to go finish my nursing degree when my daughter was in elementary school. As a RN, I gravitated toward babies and became a NICU Nurse. I always felt the pull to educate and help moms with breastfeeding their babies. It was only natural for me to continue my education and become an IBCLC.
Mother’s are the most vulnerable during the lonely months of postpartum life, susceptible to all sorts of suggestions. Lactation support is lacking in our community. No one realizes how difficult postpartum life can be. I feel a passion to help moms educate themselves and be able to feed their babies how they feel most comfortable. I want to be able to empower moms through education and support.
“Thank you so much Deborah! You have helped us in so many ways. I always wanted to breastfeed but felt so defeated. Now, I feel empowered and confident in my ability to nourish my little guy!!!”
